Cub Scouts Learn How to Estimate Tree Age at Dwaas Kill Nature Preserve

More than 20 Cub Scouts from Pack 45 and their parents and siblings hiked in the Dwaas Kill Nature Preserve on July 11, 2016 for a summer evening exploration led by Frank Berlin, local naturalist, and an original member of the Town of Clifton Park Open Space, Trails & Riverfront Committee.  He demonstrated a technique for estimating the age of large trees, through tree species identification and basic measurement of the tree circumference.  An online tree age calculator is also available online through this website at http://www.cliftonparkopenspaces.org/treecalculator/.

Cub Scout Pack 45, led by volunteer Christopher Gersey, is sponsored by the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park.
