Canals & Nature in Vischer Ferry! Celebrate History & Open Space in May!

Please SAVE-THE-DATE for a joint event of the Town of Clifton Park Historic Preservation Commission and the Open Space, Trails & Riverfront Committee slated for the weekend of Saturday, May 13, 2017.

FRIDAY, MAY 12:  A weekend kick-off event will be the Opening of the Erie Canal Exhibit at the newly restored upstairs of the Historic Grooms Tavern, and a talk by Town Historian John Scherer on Friday, May 12, in the evening, at Historic Grooms Tavern. Parking will be available at the Grooms Road entrance. Historic Grooms Tavern is located at the intersection of Grooms Road and Sugar Hill Road.

SATURDAY, MAY 13:  Activities will include: a guided walking tour of the Vischer Ferry National Historic District within the hamlet of Vischer Ferry; a guided walking tour of the Erie Canal along the towpath within the Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve. Tour the newly reconstructed Erie Canal Towpath Community Connector trail for a longer, guided hike!

Family oriented activities will be offered throughout the day!

Bring your kayak or canoe, and launch at Clute’s Dry Dock!

Food and refreshments will be available at Vischer Ferry General Store, 357 Riverview Road, and further west, at Riverview Orchards, 660 Riverview Road (the site of the Apple Blossom Festival!).
