SUMMARY:15th Annual Mohawk Towpath Byway Duathlon
DESCRIPTION:Register for the 15th Annual Mohawk Towpath Byway Duathlon at http://www.mohawktowpath.org/duathlon for Sunday\, Oct. 15 at 8:30 a.m. for a 2-mile run/17-mile bike ride/2-mile run to the finish. The Duathlon attracts top\, regional\, multi-sport athletes\, as well as recreational runners and cyclists. The start\, exchange area\, and finish are all at Riverview Orchards\, at 660 Riverview Road\, and the course are through rural\, fall foliage landscapes along the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway. Embroidered crew hats are available to the first 100 registered. All participants and volunteers receive a Giffy’s Bar-B-Q chicken dinner\, post-race. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Please SAVE-THE-DATE for a joint event of the Town of Clifton Park Historic Preservation Commission and the Open Space\, Trails & Riverfront Committee slated for the weekend of Saturday\, May 13\, 2017. \nFRIDAY\, MAY 12:  A weekend kick-off event will be the Opening of the Erie Canal Exhibit at the newly restored upstairs of the Historic Grooms Tavern\, and a talk by Town Historian John Scherer on Friday\, May 12\, in the evening\, at Historic Grooms Tavern. Parking will be available at the Grooms Road entrance. Historic Grooms Tavern is located at the intersection of Grooms Road and Sugar Hill Road. \nSATURDAY\, MAY 13:  Activities will include: a guided walking tour of the Vischer Ferry National Historic District within the hamlet of Vischer Ferry; a guided walking tour of the Erie Canal along the towpath within the Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve. SUMMARY:Parent & Me Hike at Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve (Ferry Dr Entrance)
DESCRIPTION:Come explore Clifton Park’s Open Spaces through a nature education program geared for young children. This “Parent & Me” Hike is at Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve\, at the Ferry Drive Entrance (end of Ferry Drive) overlooking the Mohawk River.  This is the first of five hikes at different locations\, are planned for each consecutive\, Wednesday morning in March 2017. \nMeet-up at 9:20 a.m. for the hike start at 9:30 a.m. and will incorporate a nature education theme. The hike will last approximately one hour. \nProgram facilitator Kelsi Clark will lead this morning nature outing for young children and their parents/grandparents/caregivers. \nWalks are designed to be “jogging stroller friendly” but a child backpack or front carrier is recommended\, depending on the age of the child participants. \nPlease dress appropriately for weather\, and trail conditions. \nThis is a free program.  Pre-registration is required through the Parks & Recreation Department\, https://recs.egov.basgov.com/cliftonpark/User/Login.  For more information\, please call (518) 371-6667.

SUMMARY:Dec. 1 Public Meeting on Improved Access to the Vischer Ferry Preserve
DESCRIPTION:All are invited and welcome to attend a public informational meeting about planning for recreational access enhancements focused on the Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve\, in the Town of Clifton Park. The meeting is set for Thursday\, December 1\, 2016 at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Clifton Park Town Hall\, located at the intersection of Clifton Park Center Road and Vischer Ferry Road.  Consultants from Barton & Loguidice will lead the meeting\, joined by town officials and the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byways Coalition. \nThe town in conjunction with the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway Coalition has been awarded multiple sources of outside assistance\, including state funding through the Hudson River Valley Greenway and New York State Canal Corporation and in addition\, federal funding through the National Scenic Byways – Federal Highway Administration\, and to date\, volunteer in-kind services by the Friends of the Mohawk Towpath. The combined funding is being utilized with local support\, to conduct planning\, design and construction of public access enhancements focused primarily at Clute’s Dry Dock vicinity and the Ferry Drive Gateway entrances into the Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve. \nPublic comments will also be accepted in writing through Dec. 30. \nFor more information please call (518) 371-6054. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join in the fun at Riverview Orchards in the Town of Clifton Park this Saturday\, May 7\, 2016\, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shenendehowa Rotary in conjunction with the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway and Riverview Orchards will be holding their 3nd Annual Apple Blossom Festival. Come and learn about the history of the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway and Apple Blossoms. \nThe Apple Blossom Festival will include hayrides\, live music\, face painting\, kite flying\, an obstacle course\, an ice cream eating contest\, giant bubbles\, canal clean sweep\, homemade Mother’s Day craft for kids and lots more fun and entertainment for the whole family. \nA roadside clean-up kicks off the event at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. \nFrom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, a host of activities will be available including folk dancing\, entertainment\, karaoke\, hay rides\, an ice cream eating contest featuring Stewart’s “Crumbs along the Mohawk” flavor. Giant bubble blowing\, crafts\, fairy gardening\, an obstacle course\, face painting and more will be featured.
