DESCRIPTION:The Town of Clifton Park’s Trails Subcommittee\, part of the Open Space\, Trails & Riverfront Committee\, with the Town of Clifton Park\, is sponsoring a guided bicycle ride on Sunday afternoon\, October 9\, from 1 p.m. to about 4 p.m. \nMeet up at about 12:45 p.m. at the Jonesville Fire Station\, 953 Main Street\, Clifton Park\, NY 12065.  Ride will start at 1 p.m. \nHelmets are required for every participant. \nPlease join this group ride and acquaint yourself with the town-wide trail network being developed throughout town. Group leaders will guide participants along the route\, and stop periodically to discuss various points of interest along the way. The 10- to 15-mile ride will cover key northern Clifton Park bicycle trails and scenic autumn landscapes. \nEveryone is welcome. Light refreshments will be served. DESCRIPTION:Join the Stewardship Subcommittee for a walkabout starting at the entrance of Martin Jewett Park (often referred to as the Longkill Park) on Friday\, June 3\, 2016\, starting at 1 p.m. The hike will cover a loop around the public lands and public trails in the vicinity of this park\, located in the Country Knolls neighborhood.  Hikers will venture to Blue Spruce Lane\, Parkside Trail Soccer Fields\, and to the new trail along Longkill Road. \nThe park is on the east side of Longkill Road\, just north of Meridian Lane\, and just south of Parkside Trail. \nThe walk will be held from 1 p.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m.  All are welcome.  The walk will include rugged\, uneven terrain\, and may include some off-trail exploration to view the conditions of the public lands. \nStewardship Hikes are part of the Open Space Program and the Town of Clifton Park Open Space\, Trails & Riverfront Committee. SUMMARY:Apple Blossom Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join in the fun at Riverview Orchards in the Town of Clifton Park this Saturday\, May 7\, 2016\, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shenendehowa Rotary in conjunction with the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway and Riverview Orchards will be holding their 3nd Annual Apple Blossom Festival. Come and learn about the history of the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway and Apple Blossoms. \nThe Apple Blossom Festival will include hayrides\, live music\, face painting\, kite flying\, an obstacle course\, an ice cream eating contest\, giant bubbles\, canal clean sweep\, homemade Mother’s Day craft for kids and lots more fun and entertainment for the whole family. \nA roadside clean-up kicks off the event at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. \nFrom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, a host of activities will be available including folk dancing\, entertainment\, karaoke\, hay rides\, an ice cream eating contest featuring Stewart’s “Crumbs along the Mohawk” flavor. Giant bubble blowing\, crafts\, fairy gardening\, an obstacle course\, face painting and more will be featured. SUMMARY:Honey Bee Habitat Project: Pick-Up Starter Bee Boxes
DESCRIPTION:Pick-Up Honey Bee Starter Boxes\, at 475 Vischer Ferry Road\, the house/garage next door (north)\, for placement on your property to help the native Honey Bee populations improve their chances of survival.  Any native bee swarms will be collected by a local beekeeper for overwintering locally. \nYou may park at Town Hall\, and walk over\, or park directly in the driveway at 475 Vischer Ferry Road.  A volunteer or staff person will be available onsite to help explain the project\, and answer any questions. \nA second opportunity to pick up bee boxes will be on Saturday\, May 14\, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Historic Grooms Tavern\, at the intersection of Grooms Road and Sugar Hill Road\, Town of Clifton Park. \nBoxes are available on a first come\, first serve basis.  Each box is available on loan\, for the growing season\, and must be returned to Town Hall by Sept. 15\, 2016.  For more information\, please call the Open Space Coordinator at (518) 371-6054.

DESCRIPTION:Please join Clifton Park Town Historian John Scherer for a digital slide presentation “Low Bridge: The Erie Canal in Saratoga County” to be held at the Historic Grooms Tavern\,on Friday\, April 8\, at 7 p.m.  The show will include images of historic photographs\, and highlights of the colorful\, local characters who worked on the construction of the canal. \nWhen the Erie Canal was completed in 1825\, it was an engineering wonder\, and was touted as the eighth wonder of the world.  Thirteen miles of the canal was built through southern Saratoga County\, along the banks of the Mohawk River. \nHistoric Grooms Tavern is located at the intersection of Grooms Road and Sugar Hill Road:  at 290 Sugar Hill Road\, Rexford\, NY 12148. The parking lot is accessible from Grooms Road.

DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, March 18\, 2016\, the Geology Department at Union College will host the 8th Annual Mohawk Watershed Symposium\, a day-long conference\, which is sponsored in part through a partnership with NYS DEC and its Mohawk River Basin Program.  The event will focus on the physical aspects of the Mohawk Watershed in New York State. \nThe Town of Clifton Park includes streams such as the Stony Creek that flow into the Mohawk River next to the end of Ferry Drive\, and also includes nearly 13 miles of riverfront along the north side of the Mohawk River. \nFor more information about the event\, see the Union College Mohawk Watershed Symposium webpage to pre-register by March 17.  Please call Union College at (518) 388-6770.
